Common Questions About In-Home Physical Therapy
Straight Answers About Booking, Visits and Payment
If your question is not here, call (516) 357-4247 and ask.
Getting Started
Do I need a doctor’s referral to start?
No. You can begin with a direct evaluation.
New York’s direct access provisions allow a licensed physical therapist to evaluate and treat you without a physician referral, for up to 10 visits or 30 days from your first treatment, whichever comes first. If your care should continue beyond that, we will tell you what is needed and help you arrange it. If Medicare is paying for your care, your plan of care also needs to be signed by your physician, which we help arrange. Neither one holds up your first appointment.
How do I book a visit?
Call (516) 357-4247 or email info@strengthworkspt.com. We will ask where you live, what is bothering you, and what you are trying to get back to doing.
How Visits Work
Do you come to my home?
Yes. Strength Works PT is a mobile practice. Your therapist comes to your home, and in some cases your workplace, across Nassau County and nearby communities.
There is no clinic and no waiting room.
How long does a visit take?
The first visit runs longer than the ones after it, because most of it is evaluation rather than treatment. Later visits are shorter and work through the plan.
We will tell you what to expect when we schedule.
What happens during the first visit?
Your therapist reviews what has changed, watches how you actually move through your own home, and checks strength, balance and range of motion.
By the end of it you will have a plan for the first two weeks.
What should I have ready?
Comfortable clothing you can move in, and a clear space where you usually sit.
If you have had surgery or a scan, have the discharge instructions or imaging report nearby. Nothing else is needed.
Do I need to buy any equipment?
No. Your therapist brings what the visit needs.
If something would genuinely help between visits, we will tell you what it is and roughly what it costs before you buy anything.
Payment
How does payment work?
Strength Works PT is credentialed with Medicare and Aetna. Plans differ, so call and we will check yours before anything is booked.
If your plan is not one we bill, or you would rather keep the plan out of it, you can pay for your care directly. Either way you know the cost before the first visit.
Where We Go
Which areas do you cover?
Strength Works PT is based in Hicksville and serves Nassau County and nearby communities.
Do you visit workplaces as well as homes?
Yes. Some patients find a workplace visit easier to fit around their day.
Is This Right for Me?
How do I know which service I need?
You do not need to work that out before you call. Describe what is happening and we will point you to the right one.
Is in-home physical therapy a good fit for older adults?
Often it is the better fit. Treatment happens on the stairs, the chair and the bathroom you actually use, rather than on flat clinic flooring.
It also removes the drive, which is the reason a lot of people stop going to therapy before they are ready.
What if physical therapy is not what I need?
We will tell you. If a short walk each day and some stretching would do it, that is a cheaper answer and you should have it.
When should I seek urgent medical care instead?
Sudden severe pain, chest pressure, new numbness or weakness, a fever, an inability to bear weight, or signs of infection near a surgical site all need urgent medical care rather than a home visit.
