Nassau County is not one place

What people do all day, what their house asks of them and which hospital they are coming home from all change within a few miles. Your symptoms still set the plan — but those three things decide what the plan is aiming at.

Work, Stairs, and What Is Nearby

Three things that differ from one town to the next, and change what a first visit looks like.

What People Do All Day

Levittown and Hicksville lead on education and health care — teachers, aides, nurses and techs, on their feet through a shift and lifting for a living. Garden City, Jericho and Plainview run to finance and professional services: a desk, then the parkway.

The first complaint is rarely the same. Standing tolerance is one problem. Hip flexors that have been folded for nine hours are a different one.

Stairs, or None at All

The original Levitt capes and ranches sit on concrete slabs. No basement and no cellar stairs, but a steep staircase cut into the attic that was never meant to be a bedroom.

The split-levels and high ranches built from the mid-fifties to the seventies put half-flights everywhere and the laundry downstairs. Pre-war houses in Garden City, Roslyn and Oyster Bay have a full flight, and often the only proper bathroom at the top of it.

What Is Nearby

Patients come home from NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island in Mineola, from Syosset Hospital’s orthopedic center, from Plainview Hospital and from Long Island Jewish in New Hyde Park.

Bethpage State Park’s five courses, the Black among them, bring a steady stream of people whose goal is eighteen holes on a walking course. Eisenhower Park in East Meadow does the same for tennis, softball and the pool.

Nineteen Nassau County Communities

Every town below has its own page, written around what recovery actually looks like there.

Hicksville

The practice’s base. Busiest LIRR hub in Nassau, and a split housing stock: Levitt-era capes south of Old Country Road, 1960s–70s split-levels north of it.

Levittown

Around 80% modified Levitt capes and ranches on concrete slab — no basement, but a steep converted-attic staircase that was never meant to be a bedroom.

Plainview

Split-levels and raised ranches on larger footprints, and Plainview Hospital nearby for joint replacement, shoulder, and spine surgery.

Bethpage State Park’s five courses, including the Black. Rotation, and the first tee after surgery, come up here more than anywhere else.

Massapequa

A strong youth-sports culture — PAL, the Mustangs at Burns Park — which means a lot of coaching parents who got hurt keeping up.

Westbury

Mixed housing from several eras and a broad range of ages, near Roosevelt Field and the Meadowbrook Parkway.

A planned village laid out in 1869, full of large pre-war colonials and Tudors — beautiful old houses that can become hard to live in.

Mineola

NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island is here, ranked nationally for orthopedics. Discharge is local; the first week home is the harder part.

How does payment work?

Strength Works PT is credentialed with Medicare and Aetna. Plans differ, so call and we will check yours before anything is booked.

If your plan is not one we bill, or you would rather keep the plan out of it, you can pay for your care directly. Either way you know the cost before the first visit.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to start?

No. You can begin with a direct evaluation.

New York’s direct access provisions allow a licensed physical therapist to evaluate and treat you without a physician referral, for up to 10 visits or 30 days from your first treatment, whichever comes first. If your care should continue beyond that, we will tell you what is needed and help you arrange it. If Medicare is paying for your care, your plan of care also needs to be signed by your physician, which we help arrange. Neither one holds up your first appointment.

How do I schedule?

Call (516) 357-4247 or request an in-home consultation online, and we’ll confirm we cover your address.
